Smartphone Game 'Garena Free Fire' Gets Anime Project
Production company Kadokawa and game developer Garena announced on Monday that the Garena Free Fire smartphone game is getting an anime project. Kadokawa and Garena are jointly funding the anime, with Kadokawa's Chinese subsidiary, Aohane Kadokawa, managing the animation production.
Garena Free Fire, also known as Free Fire, is a battle royale game developed by Garena, which was released worldwide on Android and iOS in December 2017. The game has over 1 billion cumulative downloads on the Google Play Store, with over 100 million daily active users in February 2024. In September 2021, Garena released an enhanced version of the game titled Free Fire Max.
The game has collaborated with anime series such as One Punch Man and Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) in 2021, and Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) in 2023.
