'Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205' Sequel Anime 'Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199' in Production

The official website of the new Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato) anime series announced its latest installment on Wednesday, titled Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199 (Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199).

The new anime will serve as a sequel to the Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi - Koushou - Stasha (Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey Chapter II - Stasha) anime film, which will open in theaters in Japan on February 4 (pictured right). The first part, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi - Zenshou - Take Off (Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey Chapter I - Take Off), premiered on October 8 last year.

The new Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato) project—rebooting the 1974 anime series—began with the Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 (Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199) film series that premiered in Japan in 2012–2013. The Hoshimeguru Hakobune (Odyssey of the Celestial Ark) side story film opened in December 2014.

The 26-episode Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi (Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202) theatrical OVA ran between February 2017 and March 2019. The "Uchuu Senkan Yamato" to Iu Jidai: Seireki 2202-nen no Sentaku ("Space Battleship Yamato" Era: The Choice of 2202) compilation film, reconstructing Yamato 2199 and Yamato 2202 from a new perspective, screened in June 2021.
