Ichijinsha published a promotional video for the sixth volume of Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku) manga on Thursday, which also announced that the series will receive a live-action film. Fujita, the author of the manga, drew an illustration to commemorate the announcement (pictured).

The romantic comedy manga originally launched on pixiv in 2014, and transferred to Comic POOL web magazine in 2015. Ichijinsha published the fifth compiled volume on February 2, with the sixth compiled volume scheduled for a July 31 release. The series has over 7 million copies in circulation, including digital editions. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii topped the 2016 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings in the female readers category.

An 11-episode TV anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures aired in Spring 2018 on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block. Amazon streamed the show through their Prime Video service.

Kodansha Comics USA licensed the manga in English and published second omnibus volume on July 12. The third omnibus volume will go on sale on October 2.
