'Poputepipikku' 2nd Season Announced for 2022

A second season for Poputepipikku (Pop Team Epic) was announced following the conclusion of its rebroadcast version—Poputepipikku Remix (Pop Team Epic Repeat)—on Sunday. The official website also revealed an announcement promo and teaser visual (pictured). The second anime series is planned for a 2022 premiere.

Poputepipikku adapts bkub Ookawa's surreal gag comedy manga, which he draws in intervals in Manga Life Win magazine. The first part ran from August 2014 to November 2015. Ookawa serialized the sixth and latest part between March 5 and September 28. Takeshobo published the sixth volume on December 7.

The first anime series produced by Kamikaze Douga premiered in 12 episodes in Winter 2018, with each episode consisting of a 12-minute segment repeated twice. The repeated segment contained a different voiceover by another voice actor with variations on the skits. A two-episode television special premiered in April 2019.

AsianCrush, Crunchyroll, and HIDIVE simulcast the anime with subtitles, while Funimation streamed an English dub. The latter also released the anime on home video in October 2018. Sentai Filmworks licensed the television special and streamed it on HIDIVE. The rebroadcast version, featuring alternating cast from the original run and newly recorded segments, began airing on October 10.

Vertical licensed the manga in English in 2017 and published the first volume in October 2018. The second volume shipped in December that year.

Synopsis
Poputepipikku turns absurdist comedy up to eleven with its pop culture references and surreal hilarity. With two bonafide high school girl protagonists—the short and exceptionally quick to anger Popuko, and the tall and unshakably calm Pipimi—they throw genres against the wall and don't wait to see what sticks. Parody is interlaced with drama, action, crudeness, and the show's overarching goal—to become a real anime. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
