Sunao Katabuchi's New Anime Movie Unveils Title, Teaser Visual

The MAPPA Stage 2023 event revealed the title, a teaser visual (pictured), and the production video for Sunao Katabuchi's new movie on Sunday—Tsurubamiiro no Nagiko-tachi (The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black).

Katabuchi established animation studio Contrail in September 2019. Manabu Ootsuka, the representative director at MAPPA, was named the CEO of the new studio, with Katabuchi and his wife Uratani listed as board members.

Katabuchi's latest movie produced at MAPPA, Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni (In This Corner of the World), opened in theaters in November 2016, followed by an extended version in December 2019. Shout! Factory licensed the movie in North America and co-released it in theaters with Funimation in August 2017.
