The Haikyuu!! stage at the Jump Festa 2019 event announced a new anime series for Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga on Saturday. The event also revealed a teaser visual for the new series (pictured).
Furudate launched the manga as a one-shot in Shueisha's Shounen Jump NEXT seasonal magazine in January 2011. Weekly Shounen Jump published a second one-shot in April 2011, where it began as a full-fledged series in February 2012. The manga has 35 volumes in print as of December 4, and the 36th volume is scheduled for a February 4, 2019 release. Haikyuu!! has over 31 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation.
Production I.G adapted the manga into three anime seasons in Spring 2014, Fall 2015, and Fall 2016. The 15th, 21st, and 27th volumes bundled three OVA episodes in March 2015, May 2016, and last August, respectively. Four compilation films have premiered in Japan since 2015, with the latest screened in September 2017.
VIZ Media licensed the manga in English under its Shounen Jump imprint in June 2016 and currently publishes it simultaneously with the Japanese release in their new Shounen Jump service. The 29th volume went on sale on November 6, and the 30th volume will be published on January 1, 2019.
Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime series in North America and and released the first season on two Blu-ray discs in 2015, and later again with an English dub last November. The second season was released in a single volume on April 17.
A "kick-off" event for the new anime series will be held on September 22, 2019 at the Maihama Amphitheater in Chiba, where cast members Ayumu Murase, Kaito Ishikawa, Kouki Uchiyama, Souma Saitou, and Yuki Kaji will make an appearance.
