New 'Prince of Tennis' OVA Project Announced
The Prince of Tennis stage event at the Jump Festa 2018 on Saturday has revealed that the franchise will receive a new OVA to commemorate its 20th anniversary in 2019. Titled Best Games!! Tezuka to Atobe, the OVA episode will serve as the second part of the movie project announced last year, and will reanimate some of the most popular matches from the series. The OVA will be screened in Japanese theaters in 2018.
The first part of the movie project will have three runs of "cheering screenings," with the first run screening the The Two Samurai, The First Game and Atobe's Gift movies on December 3, 10, 17, and 24. The Eikokushiki Teikyuu Shiro Kessen! movie will be screened on February 2, 11, 18, and 25 in the second run, and the third run will screen the "Teni Fes All Night" live event on April 7, 17, 21, and 28 next year.
The original manga, drawn by Takeshi Konomi, was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump between 1999 and 2008. The Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama sequel manga has been publishing in Jump SQ since 2009. Tennis no Ouji-sama inspired a 178-episode anime adaptation, two movies, and several OVAs. The sequel manga was also adapted into a 13-episode TV anime in Winter 2012, as well as a 10-episode OVA series.
