Winners of 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Announced
Asahi Shimbun announced the winners of the 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize on Tuesday. Eight nominees announced in February were chosen from volumes published last year with votes and recommendations from bookstore staff and manga officials. The awards ceremony will be held on June 8 at the Hamarikyuu Asahi Hall in Tsukiji, Tokyo.
Grand Prize: Yuria-sensei no Akai Ito by Kiwa Irie
New Work Prize: Danchoutei Nichijiou by Gump
Short Work Prize: Onnanoko ga Iru Basho wa by Ebine Yamaji
Special Prize: Kazuo Umezu for the release of Zoku-Shingo: Chiisana Robotto Shingo Bijutsukan, a sequel to Watashi wa Shingo released 36 years after its conclusion, and also for his contribution to manga culture in fields such as horror, science fiction, and gag comedy.
The Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize was established in 1997 and is an annual manga prize awarded to mangaka and their works that follow the manga approach of the late Osamu Tezuka. The other nominees includes Cesare: Hakai no Souzousha, Hirayasumi, Spy x Family, Takopii no Genzai, Tokyo Higoro, and Umi ga Hashiru End Roll.
