'Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu' Anime Movie Announced for 2025
The Kyoto Animation 2025 New Work Presentation special program announced an anime movie for Cool-kyou Shinja's Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) manga on Saturday. The movie, subtitled Samishigariya no Ryuu (A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved), will premiere in 2025.
Tatsuya Ishihara (Hibike! Euphonium) is returning from the second season to direct the movie at Kyoto Animation. Voice actresses Maria Naganawa, Mutsumi Tamura, and Yuuki Kuwahara are reprising their roles as Kanna, Kobayashi, and Tooru, respectively.
The slice of life fantasy manga began in Monthly Action's inaugural issue in May 2013. Futabasha published the 15th volume on April 11. The magazine also serializes four spin-offs centering on different supporting characters, the latest of which, Okomorigurashi no Fafnir (Fafnir the Recluse), launched in November 2020. The manga has a cumulative 3.8 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
Kyoto Animation adapted the manga into two television anime seasons in Winter 2017 and Summer 2021. The first season's seventh and the second season's fifth home video releases included an unaired episode each in September 2017 and January 2022. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime seasons with subtitles. Funimation released the first season in North America on home video in April 2018.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in December 2015 and released the 14th volume on March 26. The company is also publishing the Kanna no Nichijou, Elma no OL Nikki, and Okomorigurashi no Fafnir spin-off series.
