Shinichiro Watanabe Directs 'Blade Runner Black Out 2022' Anime Short

The official Japanese Twitter account of the Blade Runner film series has revealed through a preview on Friday that Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) will direct an animated short titled Blade Runner Black Out 2022. The short will be streamed on September 26.

Set in the year of 2022, the anime short will fill the gap of 30 years between the original Blade Runner film, which takes place in 2019, and its upcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049, which will premiere in Japanese theaters on October 27. The story will center on a large blackout on the West Coast of the United States.
