TV Anime Adaptation of 'Nekopara' in Production
The Neko Works booth at the Comiket 95 event announced on Saturday that a TV anime adaptation of its Nekopara visual novel series is in progress.
Neko Works developed the first Nekopara game in December 2014 and has since released four more games in the series, including sequels and prequels. Sekai Project published the games in English on the Steam platform simultaneously with the Japanese release. The visual novel series has sold over 2 million copies.
Sekai Project launched a Kickstarter campaign for an original video animation based on Nekopara in December 2016 and met its initial goal of US$100,000 for a 20-minute episode within an hour. The company promptly announced that an extra 10 minutes will be added to the episode for every additional US$100,000 to a maximum duration of an hour for US$500,000. The campaign ended in February 2017 with over US$900,000, but was extended to reach the final stretch goal of US$1 million for a short anime adaptation of the Nekopara Extra prequel visual novel. Sekai Project formally concluded the campaign after it exceeded US$1.04 million in March 2017.
The one-hour original video animation debuted on the Steam platform last December and was screened at the Akihabara UDX theater earlier this year on January 1. The short anime adaptation of the prequel was released alongside the visual novel on July 27.
A manga adaptation by Tam-U was serialized in Dengeki G's Comic magazine between May 30 and November 30 this year. Kadokawa will publish the single volume on January 10, 2019.
