Manga 'Oooku' Gets Anime Series in Summer 2023
The Netflix Anime Special Stage at AnimeJapan 2023 announced an anime adaptation of Fumi Yoshinaga's Oooku (Ōoku: The Inner Chambers) manga on Saturday. The anime will premiere exclusively on Netflix in Summer 2023.
Yoshinaga serialized the historical drama manga in Melody from June 2004 to December 2020. Hakusensha published it in 19 volumes between October 2005 and February 2021. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English and released the 19th and final volume last March. Oooku has a cumulative 7 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Synopsis
In Edo period Japan (1603 to 1868), a strange new disease called the Redface Pox has begun to prey on the country's men. Within eighty years of the first outbreak, the male population has fallen to a quarter of the total female population. Women have taken on all the roles traditionally granted to men, even that of the Shogun.
