Netflix Unveils '7 Seeds' Anime Adaptation

Netflix Unveils '7 Seeds' Anime Adaptation

November 26, 2018
2 min read
Global streaming content platform Netflix unveiled an anime adaptation of Yumi Tamura's adventure mystery manga 7 Seeds on Tuesday. The announcement was made at the company's Anime Lineup Presentation event in Tokyo. The anime series will make its worldwide debut exclusively on Netflix in April 2019.

Synopsis
In the immediate future, a giant meteorite has collided with earth. All living organisms, including mankind, have been wiped off the face of the planet. The government, who had foreseen this outcome, took measures to counter the worst-case scenario. In particular was Project "7SEEDS," in which five sets of seven young men and women were carefully selected and placed into teams (Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn and Winter). Each participant was then put under cryogenic sleep in hopes of preserving the continued existence of mankind.

When those men and women awoke, they found themselves suddenly thrust into a cruel world. While bereft and grieved over forever losing their loved ones, they sought to find ways to survive. (Source: MU)

The manga initially launched in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine in 2001 before moving to Monthly Flowers the following year. After nearly a 16-year serialization, the series ended in the magazine in May 2017. Shogakukan published the 35th and final volume last August and bundled a drama CD with its limited edition. Tamura also ran the 7 Seeds Gaiden spin-off manga in the same magazine between August and October 2017. The single compiled volume was published on January 10 earlier this year.

7 Seeds won the 52nd Shogakukan Manga Awards in the shoujo manga division in 2007 and ranked 10th in the female readers' category in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. The manga was also nominated for the 49th Seiun Awards in the Comic section this past April.
