'Mao' Reveals Additional Cast, Ending Theme, First Promo, 2 Consecutive Cours

The special livestream presentation for the television anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's Mao manga revealed additional cast, the ending theme, a key visual (pictured right), and first promotional video on Monday. The anime series will run for two consecutive cours beginning April 4 at 11:45 p.m. on NHK G.

J-boy Band Kis-My-Ft2 (Cardfight!! Vanguard: Divinez Deluxe-hen) is performing the opening theme "HEARTLOUD." TRUE (Violet Evergarden) is performing the ending theme "Juai." Both theme songs are previewed in the promotional video below.

Teruo Satou (Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi) is directing the anime at Sunrise, with Yuuko Kakihara (Urusei Yatsura (2022)) handling the series composition. Yoshihito Hishinuma (InuYasha) is designing the characters and chief animation director. Shuu Kanematsu (Hametsu no Oukoku) is composing the music.

Takahashi began serializing the supernatural manga in Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine in May 2019. Shogakukan published the 27th volume on February 18.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in February 2021. The 23th volume shipped on February 10, with the 24th volume planned for a May 12 release.
