Live-Action Film 'Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka?' Adapted as Anime Movie

Film production and distribution company Toho announced on Thursday an anime adaptation of Shunji Iwai's 1995 live-action film Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka?, which will open in theaters in Japan on August 18, 2017.

The 50-minute film was first aired on Fuji Television in 1993 as the 16th episode of an omnibus live-action drama series titled If Moshimo. The Directors Guild of Japan presented Iwai with the 34th New Director Award for his work on the film, which is known as Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom? in English. Fireworks was recently screened at the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival in October.

Synopsis
Schoolchildren Norimichi, Yuusuke, and Junichi want to know if fireworks look round or flat from the side. They make a plan to find the answer at a fireworks display, while Nazuna schemes to run away with Norimichi or Yuusuke, whoever wins at the pool. (Source: Tokyo International Film Festival)
