Winners of 24th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Announced
The winners of the 24th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize have been announced through the Asahi Shimbun newspaper on Tuesday. Eight nominees announced in February were chosen from volumes published last year with votes and recommendations from bookstore staff and manga officials. The awards ceremony was initially announced to be held on June 4 at the Hamarikyuu Asahi Small Hall in Tsukiji, Tokyo, but the event has since been postponed indefinitely due to the on-going COVID-19 outbreak.
Grand Prize: Nyx no Lantern by Kan Takahama
New Work Prize: Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru by Rettou Tajima
Short Work Prize: Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. by Yama Wayama
Special Prize: Machiko Hasegawa (Awarded for her contributions to manga culture. The late author was known for the Sazae-san series and would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year.)
The Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize was established in 1997 and is an annual manga prize awarded to mangaka and their works that follow the Osamu Tezuka manga approach.
