Memento in Kowloon

Deep within the maze-like high-rise slums of Kowloon Walled City, there resides a flesh-eating monster known as a jiangshi that goes by the name of Ma-Fu. These destructive creatures were almost driven to extinction by the Taoists—individuals who specialize in dealing with them. But unlike the rest of his kind, Ma-Fu was spared from death at the hands of Gannon, the most powerful Taoist to ever exist, and was sealed away within Kowloon instead. Four decades later, Gannon's disciple En appears in the walled city in search of Ma-Fu, now a jaded, filthy shell of his former self. Learning that Gannon has died, Ma-Fu is initially ecstatic about the news but becomes annoyed when he learns Gannon himself had requested that Ma-Fu be in attendance at his funeral. As En forces himself into Ma-Fu's shabby abode to prepare it for the funeral, the jiangshi begins to question why he was spared extermination all those years ago.
