Synopsis
Asada falls for fictional Hotaru, then meets her real-life lookalike, questioning love between fantasy and reality.
When the often absent parents of Saneatsu Asada gift him the novel About Her, that is the moment that his love story with Hotaru begins. He becomes completely enamored of the girl with rose-pink hair, red stud earrings, cat eyes, and a beauty spot at the corner of her mouth. Asada unconsciously compares every person that he dates to Hotaru, and his relationship always ends once his lover realizes that they will forever be second-best in his heart. One day, Asada falls asleep in the school library while reading his favorite novel yet again. Upon waking, he encounters someone who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Hotaru he has cherished in his heart for so long. Though this person goes by a different name and presents differently than his imagined ideal, to Asada it feels as though his beloved character has somehow stepped out of the pages and into his life. As he navigates this strange new connection, Asada must confront the boundaries between fiction and reality, and what it truly means to love someone for who they are rather than who we want them to be.

One day, Asada falls asleep in the school library while reading his favorite novel yet again. Upon waking, he is convinced that he is finally meeting Hotaru in the flesh. The alluring figure in front of him looks exactly as described in the pages that he has lovingly memorized. Though this vision of Hotaru is male and goes by the name of Nao Nimiya, to Asada it is as if his fated partner has miraculously come to life. However, that would seem too good to be true—and it is written that Hotaru dies.
