While the animation rivals AKIRA and features an absolutely phenomenal airplane flight scene that perfectly captures sheer speed, the film fails to engage through its poorly developed characters and inconsistent tone. Lhadatt's motivation appears from nowhere, his attempted rape of Nondreiko is inexplicably forgiven, and the space force crew are portrayed as incompetent buffoons rather than inspiring underdogs.
