Synopsis
Belgian artist Nello, with dog Patrasche, pursues dreams and friendship despite social barriers and hardship.
Nello Daas is a gifted young artist living in a small village near Antwerp, Belgium. He supports himself and his ailing grandfather by selling milk at the city market, finding joy in the simple beauty of his rural life. His closest companion is Alois Cogez, the daughter of his stern landlord, who disapproves of their friendship across social classes. When circumstances separate the two friends, Nello finds himself more determined than ever to pursue his artistic dreams. An art competition centered around the works of the renowned Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens presents Nello with an opportunity to advance his talents and potentially reconnect with what matters most to him. As he works toward creating his submission, he faces various challenges that test his resolve and artistic vision. Throughout his journey, Nello's most devoted companion is his beloved dog Patrasche, a gentle soul he once rescued from a difficult past. Together, boy and dog navigate the joys and sorrows of life in rural Belgium, their bond growing stronger with each passing day. Flanders no Inu is a touching tale of friendship, perseverance, and the unbreakable connection between a boy and his faithful canine companion.
